JOGLE on a G-Wing

The A449 from J6 (I think) of the M5 to Telford is a nice road. I know it fairly well and so does the bike. The sun is low and as we turn left off the M5 we’re heading straight into it. I’m fully in PC McGarry mode now, until we turn right towards Kidderminster.

I’m using the gears more down the twisty A442 from Kidderminster, through Bridgnorth and beyond as the Goldwing and I have a little fun the closer we get to home and the more I know the roads. My bum is on fire, but I find a coping strategy to help. By hanging one cheek off the seat at a time for a few minutes I get some relief. Trust me to discover this gem after 1900 miles and just 10 miles from home. Without exception, the bikers we met on the way all commented on how comfortable the wing looked. If only they knew what my bum felt like right now. If you know what I mean!

The Wrekin comes into view and at 8pm we turn into our street and put the bike into the garage. I have a small sticker on the back of my number plate: ‘they think it’s all over…it is now’. We’ve done it.

5pm and we’re at Gordano Services for tea. We get our gear off and grab a couple of pizzas and settle down for an hours rest. We get served by an Eastern European guy wearing an ipod under his uniform. At four and a half pound a pop, as motorway services food goes, not bad value. By 6pm the place in heaving so we move on.

Girls don’t do spontaneous. Three visits to the toilets in the hour, and time now to get our gear back on. I’m fully kitted up, pugged into the intercom and ready to go. Finally Kim is too, then she remembers about her earplugs. Helmet off and plugs in, helmet back on and 5 minutes later we’re on our way to fill up. Again.

We leave the fuel and hit the M5 junction just after 6pm, along with the rest of the planet by the looks of it. Cars and trucks everywhere, filling the road. It’s then that Kim tells me her gloves are in the topbox, not on her hands. Surrounded by big lumps of slow moving steel on wheels I take a detour down towards the docks before I can find a safe place to stop.
